Host Families for Ukrainian Athletes/Guests

We are looking for several homes to host our Ukrainian guests during their stay in Minnesota. This is an amazing opportunity to support these athletes and others, while they share their experience in Ukraine. Host homes are needed for both male and female athletes (ages 9-16), coaches, chaperones and other adults.

When will they be in Minnesota?

• Tentative schedule is July 7th to 26th. The primary need for host homes is July 20th to 26th, but there may be needs during the other dates. Most of the Ukrainian athletes will be staying in dorms for USA CUP July 7th to 16th. Most guests will be in Duluth the 17th to the 20th.

What do hosting duties entail?

• Host homes provide sleeping space for 2-5 guests. Sleeping accommodations can include: bed, air mattress, hide-a-bed, couch, etc.
• Host homes should provide breakfast and evening snacks, and possibly 1-2 dinners, but there may be situations where guests may need additional meals.
• Host families should be prepared to transport guest to a meet up location at the beginning of each day and possibly need to pick up guest(s) at the end of the day. Most likely we will be able to do some carpooling with other host homes in the area. If you are not able to transport or are limited, then indicate that on the application.
• Laundry: Ideally, the guests will be able to utilize your laundry facilities.
• While the guests will have a busy schedule, there will be opportunity to interact with them in their down time and share a meal. There may be situations where the guests are not participating in the full schedule due to illness or rest.
• Note: communication may be challenging, as guests have varying English-speaking skills and may need to use a translator (or translator application). 

How will we ensure the safety of youth athletes?

• All adults in the host household will need to complete a background check. The cost of the background check is $30/adult, which can be paid by the host family to help offset costs (Optional). Application fee will be returned if homes are filled up and host home is not used.
• Guests under 18 will have chaperones accompanying them. Minors will always have other minors or a Ukrainian chaperone with them. One-on-one contact between adult host and youth athletes without another adult in eyesight is prohibited.
