Reflecting on 25 Years With Source: The Wohler Journey

Peter & Jessica Wohler – 25 Years with Source

MESSES, MIRACLES & METAMORPHOSES:

As we embarked on reaching out to the at-risk and the unreached in 1995, we had no idea of the roller coaster adventure God would take us on. Yes, there has been a lot of work and a lot of messes along the way. People are messy in general, and even more so for those who come out of victimization, broken homes & addictions.

We have entered a season in which the harvest (fruit) is surely plentiful and the workers are few (Matt 9:35). Messes, miracles and metamorphosis describes the last 25 years and they all have been multiplied in the last few years.

MESSES

The messes have included our own lives as we experienced health challenges. “When we are weak God is strong” (2 Corinthians 12) has never been more emphasized than in the last few years. Amongst our own individual health battles that have literally limited our physical capacities and during historic devastation and recovery to Minneapolis, we have seen God’s strength produce fruit and literal miracles, including 250 (metamorphoses) first time commitments to start a new life following Christ.

MIRACLES

Recently at the Source food shelf, God healed a woman’s hearing after doctors had recently told her she would never hear again. She requested prayer and the Holy Spirit touched the woman and produced a physical miracle through a short simple prayer while waiting for food. She returned to the doctors and they asked, “What happened?” She testified, “God healed me!” We have seen a handful of physical miracles in the food line since June 2020. Hear her testimony in the “Miracle in the food line” video.

METAMORPHOSES

Not only have we increased our food programs 25-fold but we have seen spiritual fruit increase even more. This is reflected in the miracles and in over 250 first time decisions to follow Christ in 2021. The greatest miracle we have seen in the last 25 years is metamorphosis. We have

seen those whose brokenness was spiraling into darkness — individuals who have experienced incredible tragedies and come from homes with parental deficits and abuse that is hard to even fathom — metamorphize into a new birth that sends them on a new trajectory. When we get to see God change these lives for eternity, it is worth all the messes and hard work.

Over the years, we have had to keep reminding ourselves that it is not our job to fix people or even save people – that’s God’s job. Our job is to serve and love others and to do what we need to stay focused on the Vine (John 5). We are the branches and we thrive when we stay connected and get nourished by the Vine. When we do that, fruit will be produced naturally.

The Source Fall Gathering was a special night as we celebrated the last 25 years. It was an honoring and humbling time. Jessica still knows how to surprise Peter and bring a tear to his eye. She shared the black dress she was wearing was the one she picked out for his funeral she was told by doctors to prepare for in several weeks in 2017. She wore the dress that night because it is a symbol for God’s incredible blessings and redemption for our lives. Her funeral dress is now a party dress.

Present at the Fall Gathering were also friends and supporters that have been with us for more than two decades – Some since 1995. There have been many staff and volunteers that have made huge sacrifices. There are many other supporters that could not be with us that night. We are incredibly grateful to all those who have prayed for us, given finances, given resources, volunteered time and supported our family in many ways. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It has been such a blessing to be vocational ministers to the marginalized and participate in the adventure God has laid out for us. We could not of done this with out all of you.
