What We Are Doing Right Now

Providing Food to Families

Each week, we pack and deliver groceries to immigrant families who are struggling to meet basic needs. Food is distributed directly to households with volunteer drivers and through partner schools, churches, and organizations serving families in crisis. We are attempting to increase our food distribution from 400-500 families weekly at our food shelf, to 600-1,000 additional families through volunteer deliveries and mobile pop-ups. Demand is growing weekly.

Supporting Immigrant Families With Housing, Rent Support and Legal Fees

We are currently providing several families with housing including:

  • 7 children whose parents have been arrested and are currently held out of state.
  • The above family’s Aunt & Uncle, and their 2 children.
  • A family of 5 who applied for asylum, whose father was arrested despite having no criminal record. He has been released on bail with an ankle monitor while waiting for a federal trial.
  • A single mother and children.
  • A single Father and Daughter.
  • Providing rent support and legal fees for families where a parent has been arrested.

Meeting Basic Household Needs

We are distributing essential items to families who do not have access to everyday necessities, including:

  • Diapers (sizes 1–5)
  • Toilet paper
  • Shampoo
  • Laundry pods

Praying With and For Families

We continue to pray with families we serve and invite others to join us in prayer. Information about online prayer times and submitting prayer requests is available.

100% of donations are given directly to our Immigrant Outreach Program for immigrant families and children with housing and physical needs including Food, Housing, Rent & Legal fees.

A Network of Support: Food Shelf, Food Deliveries, Housing, Rent Support & Faith Initiatives

Much of the Latino and immigrant community is concerned and fearful of being in public. They are afraid to leave their homes to go to jobs, take kids to school or get basics needs and food. We are organizing volunteer drivers on short notice to help deliver or give rides. In addition to our weekly fold shelf, we have pivoted to serve 600-1,000 home deliveries weekly through volunteer drivers and mobile pop-ups at local churches and organizations. We typically average 100 volunteer hours weekly from our many Latino volunteers, some of whom are now afraid to leave their homes. This has increased our need for help during this time.

In the midst of what is happening in our city, we are stepping in where we can, providing practical help, food, housing, rent support, relational support, and dignity to our neighbors.

Along with providing food for families and resourcing 100’s of deliveries, Source is also providing supportive/emergency housing, and has set up a legal fee and rent support fund for our network in need.

1,000 Families
We have doubled our distribution to 1,000 families weekly. Our staples provide healthy calories: 2 lbs of meat, a dozen eggs, milk, fresh produce, potatoes, rice, beans, tomatoes, and much, much more.

Weekly Food Expenses Increasing from $10,000 to $20,000
– For $20/family, we can provide $80-$140 worth of groceries, including the healthy, calorie-rich staples listed above.
– We are also providing rent and legal fee assistance

Food & Prayer

Join us in praying for immigrant families in Minneapolis. Look for upcoming online prayer times and ways to submit prayer requests.

Volunteer Drivers & Packers Needed

Typically, we provided 400-600 families with groceries weekly at our food shelf, with the help of 30-50 volunteers. Many of our regular volunteers are not coming out of fear. To meet these increased needs, we need many additional volunteers each week. See weekly times at sourcemn.org/get-involve
